The 2021 Jaguar F-PACE SVR is a facelifted version of the popular performance SUV, boasting hundreds of detail changes to make it stand out against competitors like the Porsche Macan Turbo. As Jaguar prepares to become a purely electric car maker by 2025, the F-PACE SVR offers a powerful and thrilling driving experience for those who still crave a high-performance combustion engine.
Under the bonnet, the F-PACE SVR features Jaguar Land Rover’s impressive 5-litre supercharged V8 engine, producing 405 kW and 700 Nm of torque, 20 Nm more than its predecessor. The vehicle can hit 100 km/h in just 4 seconds and reach a top speed of 286 km/h, making it an incredibly fast SUV.
To handle this level of performance, Jaguar engineers have redesigned the front of the car, including the bonnet, to ensure stability at high speeds. The car’s suspension has been completely retuned, with comfort mode now more comfortable and dynamic mode stiffer for better body control. The all-wheel drive system offers a rear-biased handling experience, with 90% of torque sent to the rear axle in dynamic mode.
The F-PACE SVR also features a staggered tyre setup, with narrower front tyres and wider rear tyres for increased agility and improved turning. The steering has been re-tuned for better responses and a more precise feeling at the centre. The brake pedal feel has been refined, offering a progressive braking experience similar to a Porsche.
The suspension overhaul includes retuned dampers and 70% new bushings for increased agility and sharper responses. The 2021 F-PACE SVR aims to broaden its appeal by offering a more comfortable ride and quieter cabin when not in performance mode. Sound deadening has been increased, and a new noise cancellation system using the car’s speakers reduces road and wind noise.
Despite these refinements, the F-PACE SVR still offers an exhilarating driving experience when switched to dynamic mode, with a powerful exhaust note to match. The only drawbacks are its fuel consumption, at 17 litres per 100 km, and a slow stop-start system.
The 2021 Jaguar F-PACE SVR arrives in Australia this April, priced from $141,000, making it a more affordable option compared to rivals like the BMW X3 Competition and Mercedes GLC AMG.
