Subaru Crosstrek 2023 Review

The all-new 2023 Subaru Crosstrek has arrived in Australia, taking over the mantle from the much-loved Subaru XV. With over 100,000 local sales since its 2012 launch, the XV has left big shoes for the Crosstrek to fill. Built on the Subaru Global Platform, the Crosstrek features sharper styling, new technology, and refreshed interiors, all while maintaining a similar size to its predecessor.

The Crosstrek comes in five different grades, including two hybrid variants. The new model boasts an 11.6-inch centre touchscreen display and an infotainment system that retains physical buttons for ease of use. Safety features are well-covered, with rear seat space suitable for adults or children. Although the Crosstrek loses about 20 litres of luggage space compared to the XV, there’s still enough room for a couple of full-sized suitcases.

The driving experience remains largely the same as the XV, with some minor handling improvements. The Crosstrek’s ride is comfortable and athletic, though mid-corner bumps can upset its balance. The 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated boxer engine may not be as powerful as some would like, but it’s sufficient for casual touring and adventuring.

Off-road capabilities are where the Crosstrek shines, with impressive wheel articulation, ground clearance, and electronic assistance from the X-Mode driving suite. While not a dedicated four-wheel drive, the Crosstrek is perfect for those seeking adventure on less-travelled paths.

The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek is a worthy successor to the popular XV, offering refinement and crossover appeal that’s sure to make it an instant hit in Australia.
