Kia Seltos GT-Line 2023 Review

The 2023 Kia Seltos GT-Line has arrived in Australia, boasting a fresh look, updated interior, new drivetrain, and the latest technology. With a starting price of $29,500 plus on-road costs for the entry S grade, the facelifted Seltos competes with the likes of the Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-30, and Toyota C-HR in the small SUV market.

The flagship GT-Line features a superior 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine with increased outputs of 146 kW and 265 Nm, and an all-wheel-drive system paired with a new eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The updated engine offers smoother performance at lower speeds and a fuel consumption of 7.4 litres per 100 km using regular unleaded petrol.

Inside, the Seltos GT-Line provides generous space across both rows, with ample legroom, headroom, and shoulder room for adults or children. The cabin also features easy-to-use buttons, dials, and switchgear, a digital instrument cluster, and a head-up display. For infotainment, the top-spec Seltos includes Apple CarPlay with a wired connection, and safety features such as lane assist and speed sign recognition.

The rear seat offers excellent proportions, power outlets, and rear air vents, while the boot area provides 433 litres of space, a flat floor, and a full-size spare wheel.

On the road, the Seltos GT-Line delivers a comfortable and competent driving experience, with light steering and adequate vision. However, the drivetrain’s noise and vibration levels may feel a bit dated, and the ride quality could be more refined. Fuel efficiency averages around 8.8 litres per 100 km in mixed conditions, slightly higher than the claimed figure.

Kia offers a seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty and servicing over five years will cost around $2,000, with regular maintenance set at 10,000-kilometre intervals.

The 2023 Kia Seltos GT-Line is a well-rounded and competent small SUV. However, considering the price increase and new equipment, some may expect more refinement and better execution of safety features.
