Kia Sorento Hybrid 2022 Review

The Kia Sorento Hybrid 2022 is the latest addition to Kia’s award-winning Sorento lineup in Australia. This new hybrid variant offers a perfect blend of performance, practicality, and eco-friendliness, making it an ideal choice for families seeking a greener SUV option. The Sorento Hybrid, also known as the HEV, joins the existing petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid options in the Sorento range, which have already garnered significant demand and accolades, including the 2020 Car Sales Car of the Year.

The Sorento HEV is available in a high-spec GT Line trim, with a starting price of $66,750 for the front-wheel-drive version and an additional $3,000 for the all-wheel-drive version. This makes the HEV more than $10,000 cheaper than the equivalent plug-in hybrid Sorento, despite sharing similar looks and equipment.

One of the key selling points of the Sorento HEV is its fuel efficiency, with an official fuel consumption rating of 5.8 litres per 100 km for the all-wheel-drive version. This compares favourably with the 6.1 litres per 100 km for the equivalent Sorento GT Line diesel.

The cabin of the Sorento HEV is spacious, family-friendly, and sophisticated, featuring quilted Nappa leather, 14-way driver’s seat adjustment with memory function, heated and ventilated seats, and ample storage options. The infotainment system is user-friendly and intuitive, with seamless integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety features are also abundant in the Sorento HEV, with a full suite of airbags and multiple Isofix attachment points for child seats. However, it’s worth noting that the third-row space is only partially covered by airbags, reinforcing its status as an occasional seven-seater.

On the road, the Sorento HEV excels in stop-start situations, with its hybrid system maximising efficiency during urban driving. The ride and handling are on par with other Sorento models, offering a stable and confident driving experience.

The Kia Sorento Hybrid 2022 is a welcome addition to the Sorento range, offering an eco-friendly option for inner-city dwellers and green-friendly fleets. While it would be ideal to see the HEV offered in more affordable grades and larger volumes, it continues the Sorento’s winning ways for those seeking a family-friendly, eco-conscious SUV.
