Kia Sportage S 2022 Review

The Kia Sportage S 2022 has evolved into a compelling mid-sized SUV that offers great value for money. No longer one of the most affordable mainstream SUVs in its class, the Sportage has come a long way since its inception as a quirky Korean vehicle in 1993. Competing with top sellers in Australia’s biggest new car sales segment, the Sportage S 2022 is a solid choice for those seeking a budget-friendly SUV.

The base model doesn’t look like a bare-bones option, boasting 17-inch alloy wheels, boomerang-shaped LED driving lights, LED tail lights, and a roof spoiler. The design is arguably more appealing than its more expensive twin, the Hyundai Tucson.

Powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine, the Sportage S 2022 is paired with a six-speed manual transmission driving the front wheels. While not a firecracker, it provides adequate power for daily driving.

The interior is modern, spacious, and comfortable, with a fully adjustable steering wheel and intuitive controls. The seats are firm but supportive, with manually adjustable and height-adjustable options for the driver. Storage solutions are decent, with USB A and C ports, a 12-volt socket, and door pockets.

Twin LCD screens dominate the cabin and add a touch of class. The central 8-inch touchscreen is easy to use, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The driver’s display appears to be a fully digital 12.3-inch unit, but only the central 4.2-inch section is fully digital.

Safety features include seven airbags, a safe exit warning system, and rear parking sensors. The manual model misses out on active cruise control, trailer stability assist, and adaptive high beam dipping.

The rear seats offer more room than the previous generation, with excellent headroom and legroom. The boot is large and well-equipped, housing a full-size spare alloy wheel and tyre, with the option to fold down the rear seats for extra space.

The Sportage S 2022 delivers a pleasant balance of confidence and comfort, with sound chassis fundamentals and Australian-tuned suspension. With a seven-year warranty and one year of complimentary roadside assistance, the Kia Sportage S 2022 represents solid value for money.
