Porsche 911 Carerra S 2019 Review

The 2019 Porsche 911 Carrera S has finally arrived in Australia, marking the eighth generation of this legendary sports car. The 911’s distinct rear-engine design sets it apart from other sports cars, and the latest model continues to impress with its enhancements.

The 992 model is notably faster, thanks to new symmetrical turbochargers and improvements to the 3.0-litre turbo flat-six engine. The steering is spot-on, providing the perfect balance between sharpness and stability. The ride quality is exceptional, and noise suppression is significantly improved, making for a quieter cabin experience.

The 992 has a wider footprint, active engine mounts, and a stiffer structure compared to its predecessor. The powertrain has been upgraded, resulting in increased power and torque. The Carrera S and Carrera 4S share the same outputs, but the all-wheel-drive version excels in cornering performance.

An additional gear ratio has been added to the PDK transmission, enabling an overdrive-style eighth gear for cruising at highway speeds. The 911’s potential is truly remarkable, with a 0-100 time of just 3.5 seconds.

The 2019 Porsche 911 Carrera S delivers an impressive balance of on-road capabilities and track performance. A manual transmission, regular Carrera base model, GT and Turbo cars will join the lineup later this year. The most significant development, however, is the upcoming hybrid version, which is expected to bring further gains in performance.
