RAM 1500 TRX 2022 Review

The RAM 1500 TRX, dubbed the “biggest baddest ute on the planet,” has finally arrived in Australia. This beast of a vehicle is an overnight classic, with collectors already stashing them away in sheds and aeroplane hangars across the country. Officially imported into Australia by the manufacturer and converted to right-hand drive by Walkinshaw Automotive Group, the RAM 1500 TRX is a force to be reckoned with.

Priced at a whopping $200,000 before on-road costs, the TRX is $70,000 more expensive than the most affordable DT generation RAM 1500. However, it takes a bold leap forward in terms of performance, interior presentation, and equipment. Featuring flared guards, wider tracks, and seven additional airflow aids, the TRX is undeniably one of the toughest looking trucks on the planet.

The TRX is powered by a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 Hellcat engine, producing an impressive 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all four wheels. The RAM 1500 TRX can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, making it one of the fastest trucks on the market.

Despite its size and weight, the TRX performs exceptionally well off-road. Its Bilstein Blackhawk dampers, 35-inch wheels, and coil-sprung live rear axle provide excellent control and composure, especially on open fire trails. The truck’s wider track also allows for a full-size dirt bike to fit in the back with the tailgate up.

The interior of the RAM 1500 TRX is just as impressive as its performance. The cabin is spacious, with high-quality materials, displays, and storage options. The infotainment system is top-notch, and important safety features are included as standard.

While the TRX may not be the most fuel-efficient or environmentally friendly option, it’s undeniably a fun and exciting vehicle to drive. Its powerful engine, rugged design, and off-road capabilities make it the ultimate off-road beast down under.
